Game Film Evaluated:
Miami (2013)
Auburn (2013)
Florida (2014)

Pros: Very strong player. Can hold at POA. Looks best as a 5T in a 34 front or possibly a strongside DE in a power 4 man front. He could be a excellent 1-technique, a 5-technique and even a strongside DE in a 4-man front. Lined up in a 2 point stance in FSU base 3-4 scheme. Poor technique, lots of hand fighting with tackles. No use of any pass rush moves. Has impressive length when he uses proper hand placement, can disengage and make plays in the run game. Has some potential to get under the pads of a guard and get pressure. 5:04 mark 1Q vs Auburn, knocked Robinson on his back.

Cons: Doesn’t use proper hand placement, lets blockers hands get into their body. Matched up vs Greg Robinson at Auburn, a top 5 pick. Questionable motor. He is capable of far better things but lack of motor/effort is hurting his development. Doesn’t play with great power, no effective bull rush. Cannot get off blocks once engaged.

Summary: Mario Edwards Jr is a frustrating evaluation, his film suggest a end in a 3-4 scheme but then he weighs in at 279 at the combine. He is a average run defender with upside but has significant development needed to offer much in the pass rush. He will need to take to NFL coaching and work on developing technique to make in the NFL. There is a lot of work needed but I see a potential 3-4 defensive end that wants space eaters versus athletic big men or a power defensive end on the strongside in a 4-3 scheme. 4th to 5th round prospect.
