Breaks down well in space. Pursues plays to the perimeter at a high motor. Takes good angles to the back in the open field. Short and stocky build. Closes fast on the action when coming up from the safety position. Comfortable being the last line of defense, gets his man down in the open field. He comes up and fill hard vs the back or receiver from cover 2. He has the fluid hips to hold up in man coverage but the lack of height will hurt in matchups vs tight ends. Richards is a real safety valve who will find a way to get his man down in space, solid in man coverage and deliver a big hit vs backs and receivers. He is not a playmaker to get picks or force fumbles. He’s a solid player who plays like the guy you don’t have to worry about in the secondary. 3rd to 4th round player.
