Game Film Evaluated:
Houston (2014)
BYU (2014)

Pros: Can deliver some punishment across the middle. Moves well laterally for his size. Closes fast and plays downhill. Plays special teams regularly. Has surprising quickness to make plays on the ball when playing downhill. Violent hitter. Aggressive in coverage, he sees the ball and gets his hands on a lot of passes.

Cons: Took bad angle on QB run inside vs BYU. Makes play on ball, undercut the receiver in cover 2. A liability in man coverage, not fluid enough to stick with them. Did not observe him blitzing or having to play on the ball in deep half. He has some stiffness to be able to change directions, takes poor angles on backs. Needs to wrap up better instead of always trying to lower the boom. Did not observe him having to transition from backpedal to run downfield.

Summary: Clayton Geathers is a solid strong safety projected to play in a cover 2 type defense. He has a good stocky build who moves well but has some stiffness to him. He can punish opponents all over the field but needs to improve his tackling instead of always looking to light someone up. I love the way he finds the ball and makes a play on it. He brings the mentality of attacking the ball instead of going for the receiver. He is not a fit for a secondary that plays a ton of man coverage, he is most comfortable in zone and can play downhill. He is a 2nd round prospect.
