Pros: Willing blocker and will fight to the whistle. Inline player, doesn’t need to be split out wide to be effective receiver. Catches ball with hands. Effort is there to be a good blocker, needs to refine technique and get his feet more involved. Well built, has the frame of a tight end and not a wide receiver. He is physical and will punish defensive backs. Despite his bulky size, he is light on his feet.

Cons: Not elite burst off the snap. Holds up pretty good in pass protection but needs to improve ability to anchor. Runs tight routes. Not a dynamic downfield receiving threat. Ball security is an issue, lost several fumbles and a few more that were ruled incomplete.

Senior Bowl Report: Wednesday marked Walford's turn to put on a show. He was easily the "wow" guy among the pass-catchers and did a solid job of blocking during team periods as well. He's a complete mismatch for all of the linebackers and safeties at the event, and showed why he could be the top guy at the position in the 2015 draft. "Clive was the best player out here all day. He's been great," NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah said. "He's such an athletic pass-catcher." CLIVE WALFORD/TE #46 has clearly been the top TE prospect for the South. He can do it all and has shown that this week. He runs well for a big guy and has good hands, even though he drops a few throws. He can run a bit after the catch and dishes out punishment to defenders trying to tackle him. He is also a good inline blocker, who has the size and athleticism to get even better. IMO, he is battling with MAXX WILLIAMS/Minnesota to be the first TE drafted, likely in Round 2. Despite missing Miami's bowl game after having surgery for a knee injury, Walford suited up and played well at this week's practices. Several scouts believe he will be one of the top two tight ends off the board in this year's draft. Walford showed he's healthy and continues to gain momentum following an impressive regular season. Walford was adequate as a blocker and looked athletic this week. No matter who was covering Walford this week, the tight end was making plays. Many people think he's the top tight end in this draft, and he showed why this week. He's excellent getting off the line of scrimmage and runs routes well. Walford showed off an arsenal of subtle fakes that leave defenders hanging in coverage, which allows him to gain a step and run. At 6-4, 258, I think he's big enough to handle blocking in-line. Walford has a chance to be a complete tight end.

Summary: Clive Walford is a complete tight end prospect which is a rare find recently at the tight end position who have transformed to big wide receivers who can’t block. Walford is a big guy who is light on his feet, willing to block and can be a good receiving option on intermediate routes. He needs some technique work in blocking mostly due to his footwork but the effort is there. He is bit of a throw back kind of tight end who can get physical inline, challenge tight hipped defenders in coverage, punish those after he catches it. I like Walford in the 2nd round for an offense that wants physical players who can line up in 22 or 12 formation in short yardage and knock people off the line and be flexible to win match ups in coverage.
