Game Film Evaluated:
Nebraska (2013)
Ohio State (2014)

Pros: Matched up vs Randy Gregory in 2013. Let Gregory get hands into his pads and drove him back a bit but he recovered and anchored well to allow no rush. He is a power player in the run game. Plays with long arms and adequate feet. Gets a good base and can slide out to take away the speed rush. Has real strong arms and gets a good push with leg drive in the run game. Is a fighter and flashes desire to take his man to the ground. He can anchor and take a bull rush with ease. Stays on his feet consistently.

Cons: Not super quick feet. He can get off balance and struggle a bit to recover moving laterally. He needs to finish blocks in the run game more consistently. Moves well down the line but struggles to hit the moving target. Lacks elite quickness to reset feet to take away inside move.

Summary: Donovan Smith is a power blocking tackle/guard prospect who has demonstrated ability to handle top speed rushers in Gregory and get a push in the run game. He plays with long arms and has adequate, not great feet. I see Smith as a second tier tackle and potential starting right tackle in the NFL or right guard at the next level. He lacks the quickness and great feet to excel in a zone scheme but should do fine in an angle scheme. Late 2nd round player.
