Evaluated:
UMass (2014)
Pros: Effective
tackler, wraps up and goes low in short yardage situations. He can get off
blocks from receivers. Gets his hands on a lot of passes without interfering.
Effective blitzer, times it well and takes shortest path to the ball. Lined up
on the LOS consistently and even jammed the receiver often. He plays the inside
route very well, will not let receiver cross his face. Really good tackler
going low to take the legs out. He managed to knock down the RT vs UMass on
corner blitz.
Cons: Needs
to play with more on field awareness especially in zone coverage. Needs to work
on not tipping the coverage presnap. He can get turned around a bit if he
misses at the snap with his jam. Needs experience, takes a bit of false steps.
Struggled versus Michigan
and the better competition.
Senior Bowl Report: CB Quinten Rollins, Miami (Ohio ) A
former college basketball player, Rollins has been shooting up draft boards the
past few weeks and cornerback-needy teams are certainly going to keep a close
eye on him during Senior Bowl practices.
NFL Media analyst Curtis Conway noted he's still very raw in terms of technique
at the position but the underlying physical traits that have made him
intriguing were on full display Tuesday as he appeared very quick with good
change of direction. He was beaten a few times by wideouts, but there's no
question Rollins has a lot of upside. Miami (Ohio ) cornerback Quinten Rollins entered the week
with plenty of buzz, but Tuesday's practice showed that while talented, he's
still understandably unpolished on the football field. With only one year of
college experience under his belt, Rollins has plenty of work to do with his
technique and comfort on an island. But during one-on-one drills, he played
with confidence and never backed down, showing athleticism, aggressiveness and
the raw ability that could make him the top senior defensive back drafted. Add my name to the QUENTIN ROLLINS/CB #22 runaway train fan
list. I spent many minutes at this practice watching him in several drill
situations and he is a natural folks. He has decent size and great natural
athleticism. I like his confident style of play. I also like the lack of
unnecessary, wasted movement in his play. He seems to be a natural at reading
the play around him, making his decision and then making his play. It is also
easy to see his anticipation skills in going to the ball in the air. He came
close to several INT this morning. He has both playing speed and quickness. He
turns his body naturally to change direction and he seems to see the whole
field. If he blows up the Combine I see him in Round 1 come April/May. (GBN Draft Report)
Summary: Quinten
Rollins is incredibly inexperienced football player but he doesn’t look like
someone who just has one year of starting experience in college football. He is
an excellent tackler, shows an advanced feel for locating the ball and making a
play on it. He is physical and can jam the receiver at the line without fear he
is going to get beat deep. He is more comfortable in man than zone at this
point and is guilty of taking false steps and struggling to recover if he
misses at the line. His ability to tackle and aleady showing proper technique
to prevent receivers crossing his face going inside shows improvement. I
project Rollins to a mid 2nd round pick that isn’t looking for
Rollins to start in their top 3 as a rookie, let him become a ST ace and be
more comfortable in coverage.
