Film Evaluated:
Pros: Gets
proper positioning in man and zone coverage. Is able to stay in close coverage
without excessive contact downfield. Comfortable in press, is able to turn and
run effectively. Does not shy away from contact. Effective blitzer, times well
and takes quickest path to ball.
Cons: A
little tightness in his hips, can get turned around in man coverage. Not
effective jamming receiver at the line. Consistently lets the receiver cross
his face and get inside on slants. Inconsistent tackler. Does not turn and
locate the ball, gets into excellent position but fails to make a play on the
ball. Does not have the elite quickness to stick with undersized slot
receivers, needs to stay outside.
Summary: PJ
Williams is a solid all around corner who has good frame projecting to the next
level. He has the height teams look for in a corner, has the man coverage and
shows a willingness to tackle. He can line up at the LOS and carry his man
downfield effectively. He needs to tighten up his technique in man preventing
the inside so easily as he did in college. He has got to improve locating the
ball and making a play on the ball. College QBs
won’t test a WR who is covered but an NFL QB will test a corner who they
know won’t locate the ball especially matched vs a WR who out fights for the
ball. He was charged with a DUI in early April. Williams is a late 2nd
round pick.
