Film Evaluated:
Notre Dame (2014)
Pros: Excellent
leaping ability to go up and challenge for the ball. He can get out of breaks
quickly in man coverage. Ideal frame, great workout numbers. Most comfortable
in downfield man coverage. Has the speed to keep up with receivers downfield,
can jump with most receivers.
Cons: Over
aggressive, will take a lot of chances. A grabber downfield, needs to keep his
hands off the receiver. Fails to locate the ball in the air. Gives no
resistance to Amari Cooper on inside, he wanted nothing to do with jamming
Cooper. Doesn’t show a lot of effort in tackling. He gets run over with ease.
He does not play fluid, he struggles to get low. Doesn’t have the quickness to
change directions. He consistently lets receivers cross his face to the inside,
offers no resistance. Tackles way too high and makes himself easily avoidable.
Summary: Jalen
Collins is a top athlete for corner, he has the ideal frame and measurables and
workout numbers. The player at this time is not the same guy who provided those
numbers at the combine. He is a comfortable man corner who will take away most
routes mid to long range. However he wants nothing to do with going inside and
over the middle. He is not much of a tackler, he is willing but is a poor
tackler. Collins will be drafted on potential in round 1 in hopes of capturing
a corner with that size and in hopes of capturing that man coverage ability in
this passing league. He has a lot of red flags, not used to jamming receivers,
concedes the inside, poor tackler and struggles to locate the ball. He will fit
best into a scheme that relies on man coverage and will have a violent safety
who will punish receivers coming across the middle. The athlete Jalen Collins
is a top 15 pick, the player on film is a 2nd round pick.
