Film Evaluated:
Pros: Gives
good effort…Holds the LOS well. He can generate leverage and knock the blocker
back into the pocket. Shows a good swim move if the center drops his head.
Shows strong quick hands. Has a nice initial punch and capable to knock the lineman
off balance to get pressure on occasion.
Cons: Shows
average burst. Plays with inconsistent arm technique, often the blocker gets
their hands into his body. When he plays the nose, he struggles to locate the
ball. Does not play 2 gap responsibility well. Kid won’t give up on a play, he
will pursue outside of his area. Limited athleticism, cannot change directions
quickly. Easily neutralized 1 on 1 vs Florida .
He could not get off blocks, displayed average quickness. He struggles to
change directions quickly allowing the lineman to recover when he gets initial
penetration.
Summary: Eddie
Goldman is a quality college football player but he is a limited pro prospect.
He is strong and powerful capable run stuffer who could offer the rare pass
rush. He gives fine effort and shows interest in working hard on the field
using technique to generate pressure. On paper, he looks like a good 3-4 nose
tackle but he needs to locate the ball more consistently to be trusted to
control 2 gaps. At this point, he is a one-technique in a scheme that favors a
space eater to free up the mike backer to make the play is the best place for
him. He looks like a 3rd to 4th round player.
