Game
Film Evaluated:
UCLA (2014)
Pros: Utilized
a good swim move vs Oregon
State . Gets good
extension in run game and disengage to make play. He will attack the inside
shoulder of the tackle with good burst. Shows good awareness on screen plays to
fall off the rush and target the receiver. Versatile player, plays standing up
outside and with hand on the ground as well as inside at the 3 technique on
passing downs. Played strong at the LOS and able to get off blocks vs Oregon State
in the run game. High effort player, will get coverage sacks as he won’t quit
on a play. Displayed excellent inside swim move vs UCLA for sack. Uses strong
hands to rip and toss aside backs. Good tackler and finishes plays he is in
position to make. Good burst to close on the QB.
Cons: Not
consistent with ability to bend and drop the shoulder to turn the corner.
Rarely wins with power in the passing game. Doesn’t have a power punch to knock
tackles back and get off balance. Has good but not elite burst at the snap. Got
overpowered on run plays a bit vs UCLA, let the tackle get hands into his pads.
Summary: Nate
Orchard is a fine athletic pass rusher who has good skills to develop into a
quality NFL end with excellent college production. He projects best to a 4-3
defensive end attacking the QB from the weakside but could add some bulk to
play regularly on the strongisde. He needs to be more consistent holding the
LOS but is not a liability in the run game. He is not an elite pass rusher but
is already comfortable attacking the tackle multiple ways inside and outside.
Orchard is a early 2nd round pick to a 4-3 team.
