Game
Film Evaluated:
Baylor (2014)
Pros: Very
fluid athlete. Moves well laterally. Read and react type player. He can side
step blocks thanks to his quickness. Plays ST on punt and kickoff coverage.
Light on his feet, breaks down well in space. Average tackler, better when he
is chasing down players or playing downhill. Played all over the field, at mike
in base, nickel, outside as Will or SAM.
Cons: Does
not attack action. Misses too many tackles, goes low for the ankles, not the
thighs. Cannot take on blocks and shed them. Most of his tackles in run game
come several yards downfield. Takes a lot of false steps but athletic to
recover. Inconsistent motor. Not an effective blitzer, would expect his speed
would make him devastating but he rarely gets to the QB.
Summary: Jordan
Hicks is a great athlete who still leaves a bit desired on the football field.
He does bring a great deal of versatility to your LB core and should be a top
special teams player at the next level. He should be a dominate Will backer in
a 4-3 who should be a force in coverage but he is wildly inconsistent. The lack
of a consistent motor and missed tackles scare me. At this point, he is a
nickel backer and special teams player but the potential is there for him to
develop into a versatile starting backer in the NFL in a variety of roles. I
project Hicks to a Will role in a 4-3 with a power defensive line that should
keep him clean to make plays sideline to sideline. He will be drafted on his
potential as a starter and not off the consistent effort on game day. He is a
early 4th round player but it would not shock me if someone plucked
this guy in the late 2nd round. Member of All Knucklehead team due
to alleged sexual assault and subsequent bowl game suspension by Mack Brown.
