Game Film Evaluated:
Notre Dame (2014)
Pros: Top
closing speed, can easily transition from backpedal. Has excellent recovery
speed. Effective tackler and likes to be physical.
Cons: Consistently
lets receivers run past him as has confidence he can recover. Played a ton of
off zone with a huge cushion at ASU. A bit over aggressive trying to deliver
big hit versus just wrap up at times. Sloppy inside technique in man, let the
receiver cross his face and offered no resistance.
Summary: Alex
Carter is a frustrating evaluation, the player he should be is a top prospect
who can lock down any receiver with his speed and top notch recovery burst. The
player he is at this point is a tease, a long way to go with regard to using
proper technique, redirecting receivers especially in press man. He needs to
play with better awareness as lets his receiver get behind him way too often.
There is a ton to like about Carter but a high risk factor as well. He is
talented enough to be a first round pick but did not play like it consistently
at Stanford. I project him to a late 2nd round pick with high risk
to a team that doesn’t need him to play right away, can afford some growing
pains with him.
