Film Evaluated:
USC (2014)
Pros: Played
RDE in UCLA 4-3 scheme. Good burst at the snap but not elite. Has very strong
hands, able to keep separation from tackle with just arm at times. Good pursuit
and can find the ball. Has good spin move to create pressure from the outside.
Lined up at 3 technique on pass downs and he was a terror pass rusher with a
better burst. Has the strength to push the tackle on his heels and peel off
inside to get to the QB multiple times vs Virginia . Good inside quickness vs USC.
Showed ability to hold at the POA in short yardage, stack and shed the block to
make play in run game. Gets an excellent
punch at the snap to knock lineman on their heels. Has good strength to hold at
the POA. He uses good leverage to get under a lineman’s pads and a real threat
as a 3-technique on passing downs vs guards. Versatile player, lined up all
over the place for UCLA, both end spots, standing up at OLB and inside at 3
technique on passing downs. He is most comfortable pushing lineman upfield then
crossing their fact to get to the QB inside.
Cons: Shows a
good rip move in pass rush but needs to utilize secondary pass rush moves.
Needs to play with better technique to take advantage of his impressive
athleticism. Attempted to use a spin move vs Arizona State
but was not very effective, needs to work on timing it better.
Summary:
Owamagbe Odighizuwa has good upside as a pass rusher from a defensive
end position in a 4-3 and could also go to a 3-4 team as an outside linebacker.
He has good strength to hold the LOS and make plays against the run. He is a
raw pass rusher with good upside, he is comfortable working inside and getting
leverage vs tackles and guards. However he needs to play with better technique,
use pass rush moves to become a more consistent threat on the outside. Middle 2nd
round prospect.
