Film Evaluated:
Pros: Versatile
player, lines up all over the place as H back, inline tight end and split out
wide. Excellent athlete. Capable of drive blocking effectively and taking them
to the ground. Good footwork when blocking. He can hit the moving target.
Builds up speed as he goes, able to generate separation. Able to break tackles
in space. Great leaping ability and maintain balance. Highlight reel TD catch and
run vs Missouri .
Capable of making the tough catch in traffic and even a one handed catch on
sideline.
Cons: Declared
after red shirt sophomore season. Does not deliver power at the POA in space.
Inconsistent as a blocker, drops his head, gets caught reaching. Real limited
route tree ran at Minnesota .
Summary: Maxx
Williams is a super high potential prospect and the latest in a long line of
athletic tight end prospects to the NFL passing game. He shows potential as a
good blocker and drive defenders off the line. He can line up and pose match up
problems in a variety of roles at the next level. He can be an explosive
receiving threat at the next level, go up and get the ball, make the difficult
catch. He is not a polished route runner and had limited route tree in college.
Reminds me a lot of Jeremy Shockey who was a 1st round pick to the
NY Giants coming out of Miami .
I think Maxx Williams is a late 1st round prospect and would be a
perfect fit into roles filled by Vernon Davis and Jimmy Graham.
