Game
Film Evaluated:
Pros: Plays
with adequate burst at the snap. Has real power to knock lineman back into the
pocket. He has an ability to shoot the gaps and blow plays up in the backfield.
He can knock a lineman on his heels on occasion.
Cons: Offered
almost nothing on the pass rush. Has no pass rush moves. Didn’t show much fight
to try and get off blocks. As games go on, Davis ’ technique gets sloppy, leans with the
shoulder on blocks instead of using his arms to keep them off his body.
Attempts a spin move on occasion but needs to time it better to get it more
effective. Plays with poor arm extension, lets blocks into his body often, may
be one reason he can’t get off blocks even when he tries to use rip moves.
Cannot change directions quickly. He will chase and track plays in the 1st
half but he will give zero effort to run outside his area in the 2nd
half. He disappears in games especially late in the game, stamina is a real
issue.
Summary: Davis can be a difference
maker as an inside tackle with good burst and strength. The issue is he cannot
put a full game together, he disappears way too often and remain serious
questions about his stamina and motor. He will be drafted based off the player
he can be for 60 minutes versus the type of player he is currently for 60
minutes. He projects best as a 1-technique 4-3 scheme that requires explosion
from its tackles instead of stay at home run stuffing types. He could also play a 5-technique in a 3-4 but
his struggles getting off blocks will be exaggerated in a two-gap role. The
Senior Bowl practices showed how good he could be but the game film evaluations
cannot be ignored. He shows 1st round ability but I downgrade him to
the 2nd round due to his lack of stamina.
