Film Evaluated:
Stanford (2014)
Pros: Vs
Stanford Andrus Peat…good burst off the snap. Plays standing up as a buck type
end. Good punch at the POA and can disengage from the block to find the ball.
Good swim move but uses it mostly on run plays. He can make himself thin and
shoot gaps. High energy player, he will track down plays across the field. He
has shown ability to hold the LOS vs the run. He got pressure dropping his
shoulder and turn the corner on Stanford RT. Displayed good inside move to
knock tackle off balance, cross his face and attack the QB vs Cal. Displayed
good spin move vs Illinois ,
sets the tackle outside as that is his most preferred move.
Cons: Aggressive
and will not stay at home, gave up big runs on reverses multiple times. Did not
get any pass rush vs top prospect Andrus Peat. Needs to be more consistent with
the secondary moves, use the swim move in pass rush and spin move.
Summary: Hau’oli
Kikaha is an impressive outside linebacker pass rusher with significant upside.
He is stronger than expected and can hold his ground in the run game and even
defeat a few blocks when teams run at him. He is an ideal pass rusher outside
in an odd man front who at the very least isn’t a liability in the run game.
Kikaha led the nation in sacks in 2014 who prefers to use a speed rush most of
the time but needs to utilize secondary pass rush moves to beat NFL tackles. I
have doubts Kikaha in his current body that he could hold up as a down lineman in
a 4-3 scheme. I project Kikaha as a 2nd round player who can play on
either side outside in a 3-4 scheme.
