Film Evaluated:
Purdue (2013)
Clemson (2013)
Pros: Catches
the ball smooth with his hands. Capable of getting downfield, solid straight
line speed. He keeps feet moving and can seal off the edge in run game as a
blocker. Flashed ability to anchor in pass protection vs blitzer. Capable of
busting open the seam of a defense.
Cons: Not
an explosive athlete, average quickness. Inconsistent blocker, gets pushed
around at the POA, cannot drive defender off the line. Offense allowed him a
great deal of space to work in as defenders were concerned elsewhere, need to
see him create separation in man coverage.
Summary: Jeff
Heuerman has impressive frame and good downfield speed to threaten teams up the
seam. He is not an explosive athlete who could win vs corners split out wide
but he is versatile. He has some work to do in blocking but shows great effort
and capable of setting the edge, needs to add bulk and ability to drive
defenders off the line. It remains to be seen his route running and being able
to create separation. He brings good upside and has the ability to start in the
NFL as a solid receiving tight end. 3rd round pick.
