Evaluated:
Pros: Reads
play quickly and attacks the back with explosive speed. Fluid hips to help in
coverage, looks to make plays on the ball whether in man or zone. High effort
player, looks to make the play even when blocked or knocked to the ground. His
speed makes him a good delay blitzing candidate. Comfortable in coverage
especially underneath routes, looks to undercut and bait the QB into throwing
it.
Cons: Struggles
when asked to take on blocks. Cannot stack and shed blocks. Struggles to get
through inside traffic if the tackles don’t occupy blockers. Ideal sideline to
sideline speed.
Summary: Eric
Kendricks is an excellent linebacker prospect who fits in the modern NFL where
pass coverage is mandatory and speed are required. He is not much of a strength
stack and shed type backer who can take on blocks and make plays in the hole.
His game is speed, making plays in coverage and on the perimeter. If he has
space to roam inside, he will blow plays up in the backfield. A true 3-down
linebacker as a weakside or mike backer in the NFL. I project Kendricks to an
early 2nd round pick as a Will in a 4-3 scheme that wants speed and
pass coverage ability over strength.
