Game
Film Evaluated:
Pros: Big
wide frame, strong in lower and upper body. He is a powerful and anchors
extremely well in pass protection. He can move better than expected and has
good balance. He can get to the 2nd level at times and hit the
target. He is a fighter and will not back down by his man. He is far more
effective when he involves his feet in the run game and can drive them back
then.
Cons: He
does not get a big push in the run game. Not quick feet nor able to turn his
man to seal off the edge. Doesn’t keep his feet once engaged often. Fails to
get lower than his man and generate any leverage in short yardage situations.
Shiners Game Report: JOHN
MILLER/OG #70 MILLER was solid all week in practice and was a man on game day.
He held his ground in pass-pro and fired out to second level blocks repeatedly.
MILLER looked really good on a couple of seal blocks. He’s an experienced, hard
nosed, smart football player who could battle for a starting job early in his
NFL career. He has moved himself darn close to Top 100 overall territory
heading for the Combine. (GBN Draft
Report)
Summary: John
Miller is a big bodied guard only who has underrated mobility and able to
handle himself in pass protection 1 on 1. He is a far more effective pass
protector than run blocker but his mobility projects well to a zone scheme to
improve his run blocking scheme. He is not a great prospect, limited
athletically to consistently hit a moving target. He has a low ceiling but
effective floor level to be able to contribute early on in the NFL and hold his
own. I project Miller to a late 3rd to 4th round pick for
an offense that likes to throw the ball but requires more strength than
athleticism from their line.
