Myles Garrett vs Arizona State

Texas A&M prized pass rusher Myles Garrett practically took over the game vs Arizona State.  There is no doubt he is a really good player and should be a elite NFL prospect.

I wanted to go over a few plays vs Arizona State that describes his game.

  • He has an elite first step and will let it rip on obvious passing situations.

  • However Garrett is not consistent and will take plays off.  He is the slowest off the snap on this 4th quarter 2nd down play.

  • We've established he has the elite burst off the snap but the next necessary tool for a pass rusher is ability to drop your shoulder and bend to turn the corner and finish on the QB.

  •  He also times the snap well and it is on the opposing QB to change up the snap count to keep him honest.  Arizona State's QB is leaving his left tackle out to dry.

  • Garrett consistently goes for the RB on read plays.  It is common for inexperienced players to be aggressive.  Although this play worked out in his favor, the QB made the wrong read in handing the ball off.

I know he is still a very young player who has a world of talent and hopefully doesn't coast the rest of his career like the last elite stud pass rushing recruit did from the SEC.  There is a lot to be excited about for the Aggies and feared if you have to face them especially Garrett.
