Game Film Evaluated:
Nebraska (2014)
Florida State (2014)
Virginia (2014)

Pros: Physical blocker. Strong upper body. Massive frame, long arms. Really good at picking up stunts with ease, doesn’t reach. Has a mean streak. He flashes ability to mirror and stick with edge rushers. He shows an ability to bury defenders in space at the 2nd level.

Cons: Flowers was lined up even with the center often cheating himself of precious space to protect the edge., needs to keep his feet moving and seal off the edge. Keep his feet moving. Does not reset his feet, can be knocked off balance with a strong initial punch. Randy Gregory did this multiple times in the few snaps he lined across from him. He can get upfield and hit a moving target but does not move that smooth or change directions. Has a lot of work to do with his footwork, needs to slide his feet. Flowers had false start and slow off snap a few times vs Virginia, game was on road unknown if due to noise. Needs to keep his arms extended, lets defenders into his body. Not a power blocker, doesn’t get much push in the run game.

Summary: Ereck Flowers is definition of a talented project type prospect. He has the natural skills to develop into a quality NFL tackle but he is not there yet. He shows the mean streak every team wants in their offensive line and has the measurables needed for the position. He needs a great deal of work on his technique and footwork especially. He doesn’t play with great or even quick feet which is a concern projecting to the next level. He would benefit greatly on the bench for a year and put in the work to develop his technique to compete for a job his second season. I project Flowers as a 3rd round prospect who fits best in a angle scheme as a swing tackle initially and eventually compete for a job on the right side.
