Eagles better than Cowboys? Part IV

Week IV brings the 49ers to town as Philly looks for their first home win of the year and even up their record to 2-2.

10:28 in the 1st Quarter on 1st and 10 - This play highlights to me where the Eagles are more "dream" than they are "team". They have the skill players of the dream team but they don't have the offensive line to win as a team. The 49ers show a 4-man front shifted to the offenses right, the key player is Justin Smith #94 (circled in red) vs #71 Jason Peters.

The Eagles run a play-action bootleg to Vick's left but Peters cannot block down fast enough to seal off Smith. In addition, the 49ers safety blitz who is picked up by the TE while the outside LB stays home to keep Vick in the pocket. Due to the pressure, Vick cannot lead a single covered DeSean Jackson for a deep pass or even TD, instead the CB closes on the ball and makes the interception.

In my next post, I'm going to breakdown the play that I feel started the downfall of the first half of the Eagles season.
