Game
Film Evaluated:
Notre Dame (2014)
Pros: Has a
wide base to anchor well vs power rushers. Fights to the whistle. Moves well in
space, he can hit the moving target and get to the 2nd level. He can
mirror his man well in protection and slides well. He sets his feet and wins
with positioning, not strength. He stands tall at 6-7 but is not top heavy
athlete. He gets good extension and uses that length to easily neutralize most
rushers. . He has good feet and can move well to the next level.
Cons: Not
overpowering blocker at the POA in run game. He can be beaten by top speed
rushers with elite first steps off the snap. Peat can cheat setting up outside
and leave himself vulnerable to inside moves, Nate Orchard ate him up often.
Average in run blocking, he is not a mauler or drive blocker by any means He
struggles to get much of any push in the run game. He dropped his head and Calhoun
easily whipped his block with strong swim move. Struggles to change direction
and neutralize counter attacks especially laterally. Struggled keeping Calhoun
off his body and was pushed back into pocket several times.
Summary: Peat
matched up against top prospects Nate Orchard and Shilique Calhoun who could
both be first round picks. Orchard exposed Peat’s inability to handle a top
speed rusher and inside moves. Calhoun showed he is lacking top length and
limits in the run game as well. There is a high risk factor with Peat but his
feet and frame will offer potential as a tackle in the NFL. He likely will
never be a strong run blocker but he has got a lot of work to do to be a
consistent bookend protector. He is limited as I cannot project him to guard due
to his struggles in the run game therefore he is a likely right tackle prospect
that likes to pull their tackles often and use their athleticism. Andrus Peat
is a 3rd round prospect due to the alarming red flags top prospects
exposed.
